Old Town Bolthole is a real romantic gem in the heart of Hastings Old Town, perfect for exploring all the town has to offer.

To reach Old Town Bolthole, you have to walk through a narrow twitten that runs between the properties. I’m sure in days gone by, it would have been used by smugglers to hide and move contraband. Through the twitten and turn right then head up the stairs, the bottom stone steps thought to be used as mounting stones for climbing onto your horseback in the day.

You enter the cottage into the kitchen, which is quaint, quirky and perfectly formed. Although small, there is a two ring hob and a combination oven/microwave provided should you wish to stay in and cook. Although there are no washing facilities, the local laundrette is only a 5-minute walk from the property. From the kitchen, you head into the lounge, with its wood-burning stove, Freeview TV and DVD, WiFi and comfy armchairs. A dining table and chairs are positioned in front of the window, the perfect spot to catch a glimpse of East Cliff Hill.

Head up the stairs and you have your modern shower room and a cosy bedroom with White Company bed linen and towels to provide that touch of luxury.

If you book a stay in the cottage, you have everything on your doorstep, from lovely delis, restaurants and cafes, so no need to cook if you do not wish to. A stay in the Old Town Bolthole is a chance to relax and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the working week. Easy to reach by road or train, so the perfect weekend retreat.

As the property was built back in the 1400’s, it does have some quaint traits - narrow, steep staircase and low ceilings in places, so care is needed in order to avoid bumping heads, but I’m sure you will agree it's all worth it, to stay in such a unique property in the heart of Hastings Old Town.

If you are going to stay in Hastings, this is by far the best area. The apartment is small and quaint, but tastefully decorated and ideally situated. The "First in Last out" pub opposite does good food and sometimes live music. There's a council car-park nearby (down a little alleyway near the pub) and the trendy shops and antiques are all within walking distance. If you have a car, there's plenty of great places to visit nearby (Rye, Sissinghurst, Battle, and a pub with great food in Pett).

The Old Bolthole is in a great location in the old town. It is ‘cosy’ in size with a tiny kitchenette - but quite OK for a couple who are not very tall. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Hastings is an interesting town about which we knew little before arriving. We will recommend it to friends with an interest in history and museums, exploring collectable shops, relaxing pubs and the nearby parks

The property was lovely and in a fantastic location

“A beautiful place to stay, right in the best part of Hastings. The property and service were without fault and I would love to stay here again.”

Great little cottage close to the beach with everything you need for a holiday stay Felt like home Low ceiling but it was a cottage so this was expected

  • Phillp

Everything met our expectations, spotlessly clean, all the things we needed for our stay were supplied. Jacqui who I dealt with about our stay was fantastic, bed and pillows amazing, cannot fault anything. The only thing that might bother other people is the noise sometimes at night but this didn't really bother us

Great position Great position above High St Very clean and cosy Interesting features Well equipped We had trouble finding it perhaps Old Town Bolthole name could be on side gate? Then arrow to indicate stairs - at first I ended up in back garden of 104 at end of passageway! Also we just about managed tiny staircase and low ceilings but would not be suitable for some.

Lovely. This sweet little place is in the perfect location in Hastings-- on the elegant High Street, steps from all of the cafes and antique shops of George Street, in the heart of Old Town. I wish my stay had been longer!!! :))) (that was on me, for only booking a week-- it was hard to leave!!)

Had a lovely break in your delightful property.( loved the house) and the weather was excellent. Coming down stairs backwards sorted out the head banging possibilities. Hastings old town is a very nice spot, and a good base for our National Trust visits, also very impressed with Lewes. Many thanks

The property had good check in, was very clean, comfortable and ideal location for the town. We found Rye and Beyond very helpful. They very kindly let us know that we would be arriving on the day of the bonfire procession which was great not to miss. Unfortunatly they didn't let us know that the rd would be closed from quite early on, which meant that we couldn't unload, it didn't re-open until 11 pm. By then we were too tired to get our stuff because we had to park a long way away as the parking was particularly bad. The cottage has very low ceilings and lots of places to bump your head. The bed which was very comfortable with lovely quality bedding, had ceilings sloping at the side, which I managed to really bump my head on in the middle of the night and woke up with a very bad headache. Eventually we pulled the bed forward! We did enjoy our stay and overall I would recomend it , it was good value for money. **Response** We are sorry about the road closure we had been informed access to residents would be fine up to 5pm & yes the car parks would have been more busy as the special event draws many visitors from far and wide. We very clearly state on the listing that the property dates from the 1400's so has low ceilings and a steep staircase. If in doubt always ask questions so we can match you to the correct property. We are glad you enjoyed a goodnights sleep and overall would recommend :)
